Government Polytechnic Lucknow
Government Polytechnic Lucknow was set up in 1892 for imparting training initially to Railway employees and was then called Industrial School.
This is the oldest and premier institute of Uttar Pradesh.
It was located in Charbaugh area near Lucknow Junction Railway station.
Later it was renamed, between 1911-1960, as Government Technical Institute (G.T.I.).
During this period several courses of certificate and Diploma level were started, many of them were discontinued.
In the year 1961, All India Council of Technical Education brought about the uniform pattern and consequently, this Institute was renamed as Government Polytechnic and shifted to the present location.
It is situated on Faizabad Road, near Gomti Nagar at a distance of 10 km. from Lucknow Jn. Railway station.
The present campus measured 46 Acres of land.

HOSTEL
Institute has four hostels having 03 seated rooms accommodation for 410 students with a wooden cot, study table and chair, and individual cupboard.
There is 01 Girl’s hostel having 60 seat capacity. Mess and common room facility are available in the hostel.
STUDENT AMENITIES
Cycle & Scooter Stand, Co-operative Store are available in the institute.
BUILDING
Institute has 95428.15 square meters of constructed floor area for 13 classrooms, 08 drawing halls, 16 laboratories,1 mechanical workshop, library, administrative building and building and building for student amenities.
LABORATORIES & SHOPS
The institute is running 10 diploma courses at present in which two courses have been started in session 2001-02.
The presently available equipment in the institute is sufficient to impart training for diploma courses.
COMPUTER CENTER
Institute has a 2 computer center in which 30 Pentium system.
LIBRARY & LEARNING RESOURCES
The Institute has a rich library and well-equipped learning resource center.
There are 13211 textbooks, 8000 reference books, 755 general books in the library.
86 educational video cassettes, 105 transparencies, and 02 learning software.
TEACHING LEARNING PROCESS
More than 60% course is hand on experience. 40% course is concerned with theoretical and analytical methods.
Transparencies, video films, slides, models are used by teachers to make the clear conception of complicated engineering process and theories.
Eligibility for admission may depend on state Entrance Exams.
