However, MHRD, Government of India has taken up the initiative to set up 20 new (IIITs) like Indian Institute of Information Technology Ranchi on a Public Private Partnership Model.

Further, a major objective in establishing Indian Institute of Information Technology Ranchi is to set up a model of education. So, that it can produce best-in-class human resources in IT. Also, harnessing the multi-dimensional facets of information technology in various domains.

IIIT Ranchi will focus on applied research and education in IT and in selected domain areas. Now (2016-17), IIIT Ranchi is offering two Under Graduate Programmes, BTech (Honours) Computer Science and Engineering and BTech (Honours) Electronics and Communications Engineering.
